The FiberPatrol® FP6000 series of advanced intrusion detection systems is specially designed to promote physical security of pipelines and other buried infrastructures. The FP6000 series systems utilize a fiberoptic sensor cable buried along a pipeline to detect ground vibrations associated with third party interference activity.
Third Party Interference (TPI), including accidental or intentional unauthorized excavation in a pipeline's right-of-way, is the leading cause of pipeline accidents and losses. A single incident can have devastating effects, causing death, property destruction, service interruptions, and environmental damage, and often costing the pipeline operator millions of dollars in financial losses.
The FiberPatrol® solution is the most efficient and cost effective way to mitigate such risks. Designed to sense minute vibrations, earth movement, and other physical disturbances, a FiberPatrol® FP6000 series system detects excavation activity before the digging equipment can reach the sensing cable and the pipe itself. The FP6100 series systems are additionally capable of accurately locating the source of ground vibrations. By providing an early warning and precise location of an incident, a FiberPatrol® system can help responders prevent costly damages.
A single system can protect a transmission pipeline up to 60 miles long, covering typical distances between pumping stations. The sensor uses no electronics between the stations and requires no power, assuring high reliability and zero field maintenance. Multiple systems can be daisy-chained and monitored from a central Operations Control Center using the FiberPatrol® Remote Alarm Management System. Pipeline monitoring sensors can also be integrated with security systems protecting pumping stations and other pipeline facilities.
Existing fiberoptic communication cables, buried together with pipelines, can often be retrofitted to enable pipeline monitoring. Intrusion detection solutions for above-ground pipelines are also available.
