Elko, NV - Nov. 13, 2006 - Fiber Patrolâ„¢ intrusion detection system, supplied by Optellios, Inc., a leading U.S.-based fiber optic technology company, recently contributed to ensuring the safety of President Bush during a campaign visit in Elko, Nevada. On November 2, 2006, the President held a campaign rally on the tarmac of Elko Regional Airport. Although Air Force One was only on the ground for about an hour, security officials worked with airport administration officials well in advance to secure the site for the President’s arrival. This time, the agents had help from the airport’s own state-of-the-art security.
“The Fiber Patrol intrusion detection system has been in service at our airport for more than two years. The agents on site were thoroughly impressed with our security capabilities and particularly with the Fiber Patrol system,” said Rick Hofheins, the airport’s Assistant Director, Security Manager, and a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. “We were honored to have the opportunity to showcase these advanced technologies to the nation’s premier security professionals.”
Fiber Patrol provides fiber-optic intrusion detection systems for perimeter and point-to-point monitoring. Using a fiber-optic cable sensor, the system detects and reports the location of the physical disturbances occurring anywhere along the length of the sensor. In a typical application, the fiber-optic sensor cable is attached to a fence or buried underground. Any attempt to enter the protected area triggers an alarm that alerts security personnel.
“We’re very pleased that the Fiber Patrol advanced intrusion detection system provided an additional layer of defense during the President’s visit,” said Jay Patel, CEO of Optellios, Fiber Patrol’s parent company. “Our system was on high alert to report the location of any possible perimeter breach and we’re happy to report the President’s visit was quite secure.”
